Who We Are

Peter Wangsness is directly returning to the field of lightweight optics combining the glass molding technology of tried and true designs from Wangsness Optics.  Soon we will offer products that benefit from Iterative Robotic Polishing (IRP)

Because these mirrors exhibit high stiffness to weight ratios, the low mass and low inertia characteristics make these mirrors suitable for tip/tilt, Lidar and scanning mirrors.  Mirrors are currently in operation as scanner mirrors; active secondary and tertiary mirrors at the South Pole; and in airborne Lidar applications.  Low thermal mass and an ability to respond to changes in ambient temperature, make lightweight mirrors an ideal solution of out of the lab applications.

There’s much more to come!

Why Us?

Peter Wangsness lightweight mirror substrates combine high end performance at an economical price.  Many times switching to a lightweight mirror substrate can actually reduce the total system cost.  By combining the performance of lightweight designs with economical fabrication techniques and low expansion borosilicate,  many times the mirrors can out perform near zero expansion solid substrates for a fraction of the cost.
